Using coaxial cable for Farfisa audio intercom installation
Replacing a Video Intercom with an Audio Intercom: A Step-by-Step Guide
Replacing a video intercom with Farfisa audio intercom can seem challenging. However, with the right steps, you can accomplish this task efficiently. Today, I replaced my video intercom with an audio one. Here’s how I did it.
Step 1: Understand the Wiring
The original setup included a coaxial cable between the camera and the screen inside. To make the replacement work, it’s crucial to understand the wiring connections.
Step 2: Connect the Core Wire
I used the core wire to connect the P1 and 1 contacts of the outside station and the handset. This ensures the primary connection between the external and internal units.
Step 3: Connect the Screening Earth Wire
Next, I connected the screening earth wire. This wire connects the “-” and “3” contacts of the gate station and the handset. This step is crucial for grounding and ensuring proper functionality.
Step 4: Test the Connection
After wiring, I tested the connection. Everything worked perfectly, confirming that the wiring was correct.
Step 5: Consider Cable Quality
Sometimes, using just any security cable or Cat5 may cause issues. You might hear background sounds if the cable quality is poor. Farfisa intercoms, for instance, lack filters to cut low-frequency 230V background noise.
Step 6: Use Good Quality Screened Cable
To avoid background noise, using good quality screened cable is essential. Two-core screened cables are usually sufficient for this purpose.
Step 7: Final Testing
After ensuring the connections and cable quality, I performed a final test. The audio intercom worked flawlessly, with no background noise.
Conclusion
Replacing a video intercom with an audio Farfisa one requires careful attention to wiring and cable quality. Using the core wire for primary connections and ensuring proper grounding with the screening earth wire is crucial. Always opt for good quality screened cables to avoid background noise. By following these steps, you can ensure a smooth and successful replacement process.
