Tousek Motor Repair: What Every Auckland Homeowner Should Know
Is your gate not working as it should? You’re not alone. Many Aucklanders face gate automation issues.
One of the most common problems involves Tousek motors.
At Sesame Gate Automation, we recently handled a Tousek motor repair that revealed some important insights. That’s why we’re sharing them here—to help you avoid stress and costly mistakes.
Let’s dive in and break it all down.
Tousek: A Trusted European Brand
To begin with, Tousek is a well-known name in the gate automation world. Based in Austria, the company has been producing gate systems for decades.
In fact, their products are widely known for being durable, efficient, and reliable.
As a result, many homes across New Zealand—especially in Auckland—use Tousek motors for both swing and sliding gates. These motors are compact, quiet, and extremely powerful.
However, despite their quality, even the best systems need occasional attention.
When the Motor Isn’t the Problem
In a recent service call, we discovered something surprising. Although the customer thought the motor was faulty, it turned out the motor was fine.
Instead, the issue came from the photocells.
Over time, and especially in Auckland’s coastal or humid environment, the photocell PCB board can become corroded. As corrosion builds up, the signal weakens—and eventually fails.
Consequently, the gate may stop working entirely.
Out With the Old, In With the Better
To fix the issue, we replaced the old photocells with Centurion i5 photocells. These are modern, reliable, and more responsive than older models.
Moreover, the Centurion brand is trusted worldwide. The i5 photocells provide better range, faster response, and reliable operation—especially in Auckland’s ever-changing weather.
So now, the gate works perfectly.
But hold on—there’s something important to note.
Watch Out: Tousek Controllers Use 32V Accessory Power
Here’s something many people overlook. Most gate accessories—like keypads, photocells, and intercoms—run on 12V or 24V.
However, the Tousek controller outputs 32V to accessories.
That’s a problem.
If you connect most standard accessories directly to this 32V output, they can burn out quickly. In other words, you could damage expensive equipment without realizing why.
Here’s the Fix: Use a Power Converter
Fortunately, there’s a simple and effective solution—a power converter.
This small device safely reduces the 32V output down to 24V or 12V, depending on what your accessory requires.
Think of it as a buffer. It protects your accessories and keeps your system stable.
For example, we always use a converter when installing Centurion i5 photocells or other sensitive devices. It’s not just good practice—it’s essential.
So, if you’re adding or replacing anything, don’t skip this step.
