Installing and Setting Up the DoorBird DB-D2101KV Intercom
Installing and Setting Up the DoorBird DB-D2101KV Intercom
Recently, I’ve had the pleasure of installing a couple of DoorBird intercoms, both featuring integrated keypads. Today, I’d like to focus on the installation and setup of the DoorBird DB-D2101KV. This model comes with two relays and a hardwired connection to a Wi-Fi router.
Initial Installation Steps
First, install the DoorBird unit. Connect it to your Wi-Fi router using a Cat5 or Cat6 cable with RJ45 plugs. This hardwired connection ensures a stable and reliable network link.
Next, connect the unit’s relay outputs to your gate or door motor’s trigger contacts. This allows the intercom to control the opening and closing of your gate or door.
Powering the Unit
You have two options for powering the DoorBird DB-D2101KV:
- 15V Power Supply: Connect the intercom to a 15V power supply.
- PoE Switch: Alternatively, you can use a Power over Ethernet (PoE) switch. Connect the PoE switch to your router, and then connect the intercom to the PoE switch. Using a PoE switch reduces the number of wires needed, from three to two.
Setting Up the Phone App
Once you’ve connected everything, the next step is to set up the DoorBird app on your phone. Follow these steps:
- Download the DoorBird App: Find the app in your app store and download it.
- Add the Intercom: Open the app, go to Settings, and tap “Add.”
- Scan the Barcode: Scan the left barcode from the Quick Start Guide to add the intercom to the app.
With the app set up, you can now control your intercom remotely.
Programming the Keypad Code for DoorBird DB-D2101KV
To program the keypad code, follow these instructions:
- Access Administration: Open the DoorBird app and go to the Administration section.
- Scan the Barcode: Scan the right barcode from the Quick Start Guide. Alternatively, you can manually enter the username and password provided in the guide.
- Adjust Relay Settings: In the Administration folder, tap “Relays” to adjust the relay switching time.
- Set Keypad Codes: Go back and tap “Keypad Settings.” Here, you can add keypad codes.
Each keypad code has a Validation Type. I’ve noticed that using the “Weekly Schedule” Validation Type means the code will only work with Relay One. To set up a second code for Relay Two, choose “Date Range” in Validation Type. Set the valid date range from today to many years ahead. Scroll through the days until December changes to January, adding one more year. Then, in the Action Filter, choose the second relay. This is the only way to add a second relay code.
