Pairing Mighty Mule remotes and the Intercom to any automatic gate system.

Replacing a Faulty Mighty Mule Motor with Centurion Vantage 500

Today, I replaced a faulty Mighty Mule USA motor (MM350-0092572) with a Centurion Vantage 500. The customer had several Mighty Mule remotes (N9KSMARTECDO201TX) and two intercoms. They wanted to pair these with the Centurion controller.

Diagnosing the Fault

The Mighty Mule motor has its controller inside the motor. This was likely the cause of the fault. When I disassembled the motor, I found it full of water. This was probably condensation, as there were no visible holes for water entry. The board was partially corroded and malfunctioning.

External Receiver Issues

The Mighty Mule motor has an external receiver with three wires connected to the controller. The receiver lacked a relay on board, only sending signals to the main board. Therefore, I couldn’t use the receiver separately and had to use the main board.

Steps to Pair Mighty Mule Remotes and Intercoms with Centurion Controller

  1. Disassemble the motor and remove the board from inside.
  2. Cut the motor, on/off switch, and power wires from the board. Leave them long enough for later connections.
  3. Keep the encoder board connected to the main board.
  4. Keep the three-wire receiver connected to the board.
  5. Connect the black and red on/off switch wires together.
  6. Fix the micro switch on the encoder board in the down position with PVC tape.
  7. Connect motor wires to the positive and negative 12VDC relay contacts (you should supply the relay separately). Connect the Normally Open and COM outputs of the relay to the new controller (Centurion in this case) input.
  8. Connect the Mighty Mule board power wires to any 12VDC power source. I connected them to the 12V output of the Centurion board.
  9. The system should now work fine, allowing MMule access control devices to operate the Centurion system.
